12. Moments

The time has come to accept the fact that, as I reach my eighth decade, perhaps I have developed my Hillside Garden as far as I can and that it’s now more important to enjoy it as it is. From here on in, I shall attempt to illustrate how the garden develops on its own and simply try to capture some of the moments that bring me the greatest joy

Wild Edric, right up at the heighest point of my garden, is always the first rose to bloom. Planted in very poor stony ground, it gets no pampering at all, yet it goes from strength to strength

I spend a lot of time sitting on that rock, pond-gazing and watching the sun go down.

The wonderful Spring and early Summer weather is resulting in a bountiful fruit harvest this year.

We even have a long-awaited first crop of pears

During a July heatwave, early morning was the best time to weed out the grass and Cow Parsley from the gravel, leaving the self-sewn Antirrhinums and Valerian to bring a smile.
